Bears at the Beach

Updated: Mar 7, 2021

A few of our Bears have recently taken their annual holiday to South Wales. Everyone had a great time, and kept well away from Candy Floss (it gets stuck in your fur you know!), and the salty sea. Even Bears awaiting Adoption need a few treats and we try our best to make their lives as exciting as possible even if they do not get all the cuddles they deserve.

Sunny Tenby a great holiday destination for all good Bears...

Wickers, Tamarind, Costa Rica and Filbert watching the waves...

The bears were very good at staying clear of the waves (Tamarind looks a bit startled by the sea in the photograph above) but enjoyed watching people playing. The Bears asked Jane why the people did not get weighed down by all the water and she told them that people are waterproof unlike Teddy Bear folk because people do not have the fabulous mohair fur that they all have.

Tamarind decided to make new friends when we first got on to the beach and asked the nice ladies from the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (https://rnli.org/) if she could wear the wellies and the helmet. Unfortunately they did not fit as well as she hoped but she had fun trying on the equipment that lifeboat people wear to save lives.

Tamarind managed to climb on to the large Helmet (large for small bears that is), but soon found herself slipping so the very helpful RNLI lady steadied her for a fantastic photograph - definitely the one Tamarind likes the best.

At the Marina the bears loved looking at the boats and playing on the harbour wall. The tide was out but the fall was still quite dangerous for bears so they tried their best to stay away from the edge.

Wickers, checking out the Yachts...

Wickers was looking ready for a day on a Yacht, like the one he has been eyeing up in the photograph. He is waving to people walking past who are keen to chat to him as he plays the catwalk model for a day.

Wickers, checking over the edge safely...

The safety signs are great for hanging on to so that you don't get blown over the edge by the sea breeze. Wickers was fascinated by the little yachts and boat laying on their sides on the floor of the harbour.

Costa Rica is quite a bit smaller than Wickers, but he was enjoying the Harbour too. He fancied himself sailing the waves with friends and a case of champagne; plus a cheeky little lemonade for him as bears are too little for alcohol!

He is a fun little chap but the tide was out so he could't get a trip on a yacht. He decided that he wanted to get down onto the beach instead, and got quite insistent..

A little later we found a wonderful area of rocks, a cave and rock pools which the bears thought would be a great place to explore. Mr Dagwood Terry, is a very dapper antique bear who usually loves antique cars and motor sports. However, like many early 20th century gentlemen he has a great sense of adventure and could not resist exploring the cave.

But the "Adventure Bear of the Day Award" must go to tiny little Filbert Vanda Bear, who scampered up the rock face like a mountain goat; must be to do with his gorgeous Angora goat coat, :)

So a great day was had by all, we avoided the Sea Gulls, enjoyed the fresh air and baked in the sun. A very traditional British holiday for a very tired Hug of bears, who had lots of stories to share with their friends back home.
